Internet is an ideal environment for emergence and popularization of the concept of free sources. Our analysis of this concept and the assessment of its impact on the media sphere confirmed clearly that the sphere of mass communication under the influence of globalization and the rapid evolution of information technologies is looking for the new models of activities of the media in order to keep its dominant position and influence in the structure of the modern information environment. The concept of free sources has a significant impact on the media sphere and has led to realization of the need for change in the approach to new media. At the same time the most radical interpretations of the concept, such as the idea of a free media content, have not yet found its support in the media industry.
