Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected. The relevance of the journal's topic is determined by the correspondence of the keywords of your article to the keywords of the journal's profile: mass communication, audience, media influences on the audience, media effects in the audience, technologies of influence on the audience, media as an institution of influence on the audience, masses, public, crowd. Keywords of the journal's profile can include words and phrases that are close in meaning to those listed here.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission corresponds to the journal profile.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Discussions

Discussions  (printing of scientific and journalistic speeches, positions of the editorial board, editor-in-chief, members of the editorial board, results of research that have not been reviewed, but are of interest. These publications are not scientific articles). Participation in this section can be considered as approbation of research materials.

Research articles

Research articles (printing the results of scientific research that correspond to the profile of the journal, have been reviewed and approved for publication as scientific articles).

Review articles

Review articles (printing reviews of scientific literature on a particular issue. Reviews are a kind of scientific article).

Interdisciplinary research

Interdisciplinary research (peer-reviewed scientific papers) present original research results, but go beyond the narrow profile of the journal, and their authors are scholars from other fields. However, such scientific articles should be at least partially related to mass communication.

Page of the Hidden Media Effects Lab

This section publishes materials from the Hidden Media Effects Lab (HMEL) of the Department of Social Communications of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv only by collective decision of the laboratory researchers. Materials from other scientists can be recommended for publication in this section only after consideration by the laboratory staff. Such materials must comply with the scientific policy, subject matter and methodological culture of the laboratory. However, manuscripts of articles undergo triple anonymous external review if the authors of the manuscripts are employees of the laboratory or the Department of Social Communications, since the editor-in-chief Volodymyr Rizun and the member of the editorial board and employee of the editorial office Yuriy Gavrylets are employees of the laboratory and the said department. Manuscripts of authors who are not employees of the laboratory and the Department of Social Communications undergo double anonymous review, external if the authors are employees of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. When submitting an article manuscript, this section is chosen by authors who are not employees of the laboratory and do not work at the Department of Social Communications.

Reviews

Peer reviews (printing reviews of various scientific publications in the field of mass communication, including reviews of scientific articles, reviews of opponents on the dissertation).
